First Lego League Challenge Team

(Grades 6-9)

NOTE: This activity spans over TWO Sessions (August 2022 - Feb 2023)

FIRST LEGO League Challenge is a research and robotics tournament for 11-16-year-old students. It combines the fun of technology and science with the exciting atmosphere of a sports event.

Every year, FIRST LEGO League(FLL) releases a new Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic.
Each Challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the Core Values. Teams of up to ten children, with at least two adult coaches, participate in the Challenge all over the world by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FIRST Core Values.
After 12-15 weeks of hard work teams attend an official tournament, hosted by FLL Partners.

Should any of the teams qualify for the National and/or European finals, TechSpark will continue to support the team(s).

***ICS Team will participate in First Lego League Tournament in Brugg on Saturday 21st January 2023. Students joining this class must be available to participate in this tournament.

First Lego League Explore Team

(Grades 3-5)

22nd November - 14th March

Students will be introduced to FIRST LEGO League Explore robotics competitions. Teams of students ages 7-10 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by programmable LEGO Education Hubs.

Each yearly challenge has three parts:
Explore CoreValues - students learn that friendly competition and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping one another is the foundation of teamwork.
Create & Test LEGO Model - using Lego Spike education sets, students must build and program a model which demonstrates their findings and solution to a real-world problem.
Team Poster - students share and present what they learn throughout the season with a cool team poster.

Students must complete all three parts during their weekly team meetings and present their findings at an official FLL exhibition. Provisional exhibition date Saturday 18th March 2023. Students should be able to attend the exhibition.
